The Infiniti Q50, replacement to Infiniti's G series sedans, is packed with an amazing amount of technology. One of more interesting things engineered into this sedan is Direct Adaptive Steering (DAS), aka fly-by-wire steering. This means there is not a direct mechanical connection between the driver and the steering wheel. While this sounds fairly frightening at first, Infiniti engineers spent a decade refining this technology to ensure it will work safely in a production vehicle. DAS is unique in that it can independently adjust wheel angle and steering inputs, helping shield the driver from certain types of road surfaces that can cause wheel vibration which could cause the driver to make excessive wheel inputs. This technology also allows the driver to select the sensitivity of the wheel input as well.
The Direct Adaptive Steering recent won the Automotive Researchers’ and Journalists’ Conference of Japan (RJC) Technology of the Year Award 2014-2015. DAS was one of two technologies that the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) gave it the Best New Technology award elarier this year as well. The Q50 won the premium segment for Vehiblog's Geekiest Car Of 2014 award not only for the DAS but for the amazing amount of technology this vehicle comes equipped with.
